Butcher's String vs. Silicone Ties and Bands
Posted by Nicki on 11/17/2011

If the whole “fam damily” is coming to your house for any of the holiday dinners this year, it’s time to start planning. Yes, now!  You’ll thank me later.  My youth is peppered with memories of my mother swearing (in French) because she forgot to buy butcher’s string to bind the turkey’s legs.  The reason she always ran out was she cut a huge piece to tie 2 tiny little legs and had to discard the extra. Waste not, want not, right Mom?  If she were alive today, she would be the proud owner of silicone tie wraps and bands.  They last forever and are very easy to use. The tie wraps are a little more versatile in that you can attach them to each other to make a loop big enough to bind Fred Flintstone’s Roast Pterodactyl’s legs if necessary. They come with a handy mesh bag for storage and cleaning in the dishwasher like the sock bag for the washing machine.  The silicone bands are good for smaller items like bunches of green beans or asparagus which can be removed from the steamer with ease and the portions are pre set. There’s no fussing with tongs or spoons.  Bind a roast with ease.  Tie up a delicate stuffed fish.  Chicken roll ups are a breeze with these. See, you can use them all year.  What a good investment!
