Leftover
vegetables and fruits like onions, tomatoes, peppers, lemons and limes need a
home of their own!
When
a recipe calls for a quarter cup of a chopped vegetable or citrus juice, it
leaves the rest of the vegetable/fruit with a storage problem. Wrapping it in foil is counterproductive: one has no idea what is wrapped inside,
therefore its ignored and forgotten until the major cleaning of the fridge
when all things blue and/or furry are discarded. Wrapping them in film seems to hasten the
decaying process. It probably doesnt
really but it SEEMS to get real slimy real fast. Yuk!
Using an old yogurt or margarine tub is also a less than perfect
solution in that it suffers the same fate as the foil wrapped veg:
unidentifiable. Ok, we could write its
name on the lid of the tub but that would mean wed have a marker handy. Not happening!
Along
came a series of plastic containers shaped like tomatoes, peppers, onions,
lemons, limes. Its the proverbial Why didnt I think of that? So simplea container that tells you exactly
whats inside. When you need the next
quarter cup of chopped onion you know exactly where to get it. The little splash of lemon juice on the fish
makes the dish and now its easily available.
These clever, handy items can make you look like a regular hero in the
kitchen by rescuing the dish with a scattering of lemon zest that you have
stored in the lemon shaped container. Its
one of the smartest to come down the kitchen gadget pike in a long time. Wish Id thought of it!
