Girl Scout Cooking Classes
Each private lesson satisfies "skill building," "technology," and "career exploration" requirements for the "Let's Get Cooking" IP. And younger Scouts, like Brownies & Juniors, earn a badge that same day. So how does it all work? Here's the breakdown. The troop picks a style of cuisine before reserving the class (we'll get to the menu selection soon). We have all the ingredients and equipment ready for them to measure, assemble, cook and serve a family style meal. The girls are divided into teams, each team cooking one dish of the meal. We like to have an adult supervisor for each team, in addition to our teacher/chef who manages the preparation of the whole meal. We play games related to the country of origin. We also play regional music during the class. The girls are encouraged to ask questions regarding a career in the culinary arts.
The fee for everyone who eats is $25. If your group has more escorts than are needed at the class, they are welcome to stay and observe and share the dining experience with the troop or go off on their own tour of Savannah (or maybe just take a nap!). Classes generally last for about 1.5 hours and class size is limited to 16. A deposit of $100 (4 seats) is required upon making your reservation to hold the date. The deposit goes toward the total cost of the class. The remaining balance of the class is due no later than 1 calendar week before the class date. Menu "Cooking Woks!" In this class, the scouts work together to create a Chinese feast - Ginger Chicken Kabobs, Summer Rolls with Dipping Sauce, Egg Drop Soup, and delicious Orange Almond Lace Cookies. Along the way, they'll learn fun facts about Chinese culture, history, and more. "It's NOT Greek to Me!" This class showcases the traditional foods of Greece - birthplace of Western Civilization. Your troop prepares such delicacies as: Spanakopita, Tzatziki Dip, Lemon Chicken, and the ever-popular Baklava. "A French Feast, Oui! Oui!" This class focuses on the savory side of French cuisine, offering traditional classics like Croque Monsieur, Haricots Verts Lyonnaise (Green Beans Side), Salad w/ French Vinaigrette and Dessert Crepes w/ Whipped Cream & Strawberries. "It's a Fiesta, Olé!" Everyone loves a fiesta, and this class certainly delivers! These festive crowd pleasers - "Refried" Beans, Ground Beef Tacos, Guacamolé, and Sopapilla Cheesecake - are perfect for scouts who love to entertain. "The Leaning Tower of Pizza!" This class features delicious food from everyone's favorite boot! Scouts will learn fun and easy recipes to make every day a Roman holiday, including: Cheesy Pizza Bites, Salad w/ Italian Vinaigrette, Tasty Meatballs and Pasta, and Strawberry Tiramisu for dessert.
